Soprano Alexandra Smither is quickly making a name for herself in both old and new music. In fall of 2017 she made her debut with Houston Grand Opera as Younger Alyce in their production of Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied.  She swept all top prizes in the prestigious 2017 Eckhardt-Gramatée Competition; as part of her prize she toured an program of contemporary works across Canada in fall of 2017. She has held fellowships at Songfest's Winter Intensive, Marilyn Horne's "The Song Continues" at Carnegie Hall, Banff’s Winter Residency, “Concert in the 21st Century”, and an upcoming one at Fall Island Vocal Arts. She was a 2017 Tanglewood Music Festival Fellow where she made her Seji Ozawa Hall debut alongside Emanuel Ax for a performance of Schubert’s “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen”. She was invited to return to Tanglewood in 2018. Equally comfortable in early music, she has sung with acclaimed ensemble Ars Lyrica and Emmanuel Music. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BMus 2014) and the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University (MMus 2016). 2018 brings performances in Boston, Banff, Austria, Melbourne, Toronto, Japan, and New York. www.alexandrasmither.com
